Moving Into Balance
The body/mind/emotion/energy system is always working towards homeostasis. Given the proper conditions, it will heal. Sometimes our natural ability to remain balanced is short-circuited. This may be due to stress, injury, accident, poor posture and patterns of movement, emotional experiences, and/or over-taxing our limits. When this happens, our system tries to adapt as best it can, but in the process may create patterns of further stress or dysfunction as it compensates for the original imbalance. Physical injury, for example, often creates compensatory patterns in other parts of the body as well as possible mental and emotional consequences. Mental stress or emotional turmoil likewise affect our bodies: our endocrine system responds as strongly to intense feelings as it does to actual physical threats, and even our posture changes according to how we feel; our mental and emotional patterns literally get held in our bodies' tissues. Whenever there is discomfort on any level (physical, mental, emotional), the sympathetic nervous system (fight/flight/freeze) is engaged and healing is inhibited. When we are at ease, we engage the parasympathetic nervous system (rest/digest/heal) and true healing is made possible. Feeling safe, comfortable, and honored we can let go of what no longer serves us and open to new possibilities. Moving towards balance on any one level of our being will bring about greater balance and ease in all the others.
"Where does the body end and the mind begin?
Where does the mind end and the spirit begin?
They cannot be divided, as they are inter-related and
but different aspects of the same all-pervading consciousness."
~ B.K.S. Iyengar
Some therapies work primarily at the physical level, creating a secondary beneficial effect on the mind and emotions. Massage, for example, addresses the physical level and can help us to feel more grounded and connected with our bodies while also positively affecting the mind, emotions, and energy. Subtler work, such as Reiki, Polarity Therapy, and Matrix Energetics, focuses on the energy (causal) body, including mental and emotional patterns held in our bodies' tissues.
All therapies offered by Bryony are non-invasive, and the client's comfort and ease is of utmost priority. Bryony brings a focused presence, and a compassionate, caring, listening touch to all of her sessions. Services are customized to the needs of each client, and often include several modalities. With the exception of massage, sessions are typically done with the client fully clothed.
Below are more detailed descriptions of some of the primary modalities Bryony uses.
Most services (other than massage) can be adapted for remote work, by phone or video.

Reiki is a natural, non-invasive healing technique, which involves channeling universal life force energy through the hands of the practitioner to the client. It benefits the recipient on all levels:
physical, mental, emotional, spiritual. It can be transmitted in person or at a distance, with or without actual physical contact.
At our most basic level, we are made of energy.
Pain, illness, and disease are thought to be caused by disturbances, blockage, or imbalance in this energy. Reiki works at the causal level to restore energy, balance, and harmony so that the body can heal itself.
Deeply relaxing and restorative, Reiki treatment reduces pain, eases stress, enhances the immune system, and speeds healing. Studies have shown it to be effective for numerous conditions, including anxiety, allergies, depression, fibromyalgia, and arthritis. It it effective treatment in cases of broken bones, osteoporosis, muscle strains and sprains. People who receive Reiki report having more energy, sleeping better, and feeling happier and calmer overall. The benefits of Reiki are progressive and accumulative with successive treatments.
Gentle, attentive movement and positioning elicit the body's self-corrective reflexes to release muscular tension and strain, reduce pain, and improve functioning, alignment, and range of motion. Patterns of posture and movement are addressed, getting at the root of recurring pain and restriction, and providing longer lasting improvement. Non-invasive, non-force contact engages the nervous system ("master system") to affect change in the skeletal structure, fascia, muscles, glands, organs, and lymphatic system. Positional Release addresses both the presenting imbalances and the underlying patterns that cause the pain or dysfunction.
Positional Release has its roots in work known as "Strain/Counterstrain" and "Spontaneous Release by Positioning."
CranioSacral Therapy evolved from the work of Osteopathic physician, Dr. William Sutherland in the early 1900's. Like Ortho-Bionomy®, CST is a gentle, non-force method which works with the nervous system to help the body restore wholeness and optimal well-being. In this modality, the primary focus is on the spine and cranium, the dural tube surrounding the spinal cord and dura surrounding the brain, and the cerebrospinal fluid which can be subtly felt anywhere in the body. When there is tension or restriction anywhere along the dural membrane, this can put a drag on other areas, inhibiting the flow of cerebrospinal fluid and nerve impulses to all parts of the body. The practitioner uses gentle, specific contact, finely tuned perception, and a calm, witnessing presence to hold the space for transformation and support the body's inherent capacity to heal from within.
Matrix Energetics® is a system of transformation, simple and straight-forward enough for anyone to learn. With an attitude of playfulness and "solution set” orientation, Matrix Energetics encompasses a new state of being, a new way of experiencing the world we live in, and a more expansive way of accessing new possibilities - a consciousness shift. Developed by Dr. Richard Bartlett, D.C., N.D., Matrix Energetics employs the principles of quantum physics to affect observable and verifiable changes on the physical, mental, and emotional levels.
This work is non-invasive, and often involves just a light contact on or off the body, with the main focus being on intent and what is being felt by both the practitioner and the client. Clients report experiencing states of joy or relaxation during the session, physical improvement including freedom from chronic pain, and an overall sense of well-being.
Polarity Therapy uses light, specific touch and focused presence to balance the various elements of the individual's constituiton, restoring health and well-being. Clients experience a sense of harmony within their bodies, minds, and emotions. Energy flow throughout the body is improved, along with physical conditions (such as inflammation, muscle tension, digestive problems, and nerve pain) and mental/emotional states (like anxiety, poor concentration, inertia, and anger).
This modality was developed in the mid-1900's by Dr. Randolph Stone, a naturopath, chiropractor, and osteopathic doctor. Dr. Stone recognized that most patients did not get lasting results from manipulations or other physically-oriented approaches alone, and he looked for a way to bring about more lasting change. Studying Ayurveda and other ancient healing traditions, as well as reflecting on his own experiences, he came to realize that energy precedes form, and that dis-ease arises from blocks in the energy fields of our bodies. Polarity Therapy is one aspect of Dr. Stone's system of healing, which also includes nutrition, internal cleansing, and attitudinal healing.
Customized for each client, this massage may include several styles and techniques including Swedish, Neuro-muscular (NMT), Myofascial Release, Foot Reflexology, Shiatsu, and Sports Massage. Other modalities such as Reiki, Polarity Therapy, Matrix Energetics, CranioSacral Therapy, and Ortho-Bionomy may also be incorporated as appropriate.
The primary focus in massage is the soft tissue: muscles and their attachments, and the fascia. Massage reduces muscular tension and restriction, improves tone of skin and muscles, eases pain and stress, improves blood circulation, and can calm or invigorate depending on how it is applied.
Massage supports the body's natural healing process, as well as muscle recovery after exercise.
It can assist in loosening scar tissue and areas of chronic contraction, while improving lymphatic and venous return and releasing metabolic waste from the muscles.
Light, rhythmic contact stimulates the lymphatic system for improved detoxification, general health and well-being, or healing from injury or illness. Lymphatic Massage can be helpful as part of a weight loss program. Clients with allergies, arthritis, edema, digestive disturbances, and skin problems also benefit from Lymphatic Massage.
In our current times, people are finding new ways to connect, and in some ways feeling more connected than ever. We are realizing our capacity to connect with others from all over the globe, regardless of where we are physically located. Most of the above services can be adapted for remote sessions, conducted via zoom or phone call. Distance sessions afford the client the opportunity to stay in the comfort of their own environment and to remain in a restful state afterwards if they wish.
Along with the energy modalities listed above, sessions typically include guided meditation, visualization, and body awareness. Suggestions may be given for self-care the client can do on their own to support ongoing improvement. Depending on the client's needs and intentions for the session, the work may be more physical or ethereal in nature.
For clients who are more physically oriented, guided movement and specific positioning supported by props help release restrictive patterns and restore ease. New movement patterns can then be integrated. These sessions give clients a sense of empowerment, as they learn tools they can apply on their own and recognize their ability to affect a change in their bodies.
For clients of a more ethereal nature or those who tend to be more sensitive, distance energy work is extremely impactful~ often even moreso than a session done in person. Quantum physics has proven that we are inextricably connected, regardless of the perception of an apparent “distance.” Just as we can listen to music on a radio without being physically in contact with the radio station, or have a conversation with someone at the other end of the world without needing a physical phone line, it is possible to tune in to the "radio frequencies" of anyone we want to connect with. Whenever we focus our positive thoughts and intentions on the well-being of others, we align with a power greater than ourselves which has the ability to transform. The therapist is not the source of this healing energy, but merely a "focusing lens" for it to work through. When directed on behalf of others, that energy has immense power and can transcend any distance. Like all therapeutic work, the comfort of the client in a distance energy session is of foremost importance. With the consent of the client, the practitioner uses focused intent to enter into an energetic rapport with that person. They then work with the client on the energetic (causal) level to release blockages and bring the system into balance. This work can be extremely impactful for sensitive individuals or those with unresolved trauma, as the physical boundary afforded by the distance helps them feel more at ease and open to shifts. As clients recognize the results- less stress and pain, greater ease, peace of mind, physical comfort, and better quality sleep- they gain confidence in themselves and their ability to heal, as well as a sense of positivity and possibility for a brighter future.

“Transformative: the word that best describes my experience of work with Bryony.
As a meditator, teacher, choral director, I've had bodywork off and on throughout my adult life. It has keep me paying attention to my body, for which I am grateful. And the work with Bryony surpasses it all in a gentle, simple, "of course" way. I have always felt that the body is our best teacher. Now that idea has expanded tremendously, and I treasure that growth. Never in my entire experience has the interface, the connection, between body, mind and spirit been so obvious. I treasure every session's experience and learning.”
With deep gratitude,
Arlene Long, age 79.
"Just wanted to let you know your treatment and 'stretching' recommendation is really helping. I worked 2 1/2 busy days since our session and I still feel great. I forgot to tell you I usually get sciatica pain after driving more than an hour, but not this weekend working in Tampa (2 hour drive each way). Thank you!"

"I am impressed by my success! My back is more often than not my friend. My knees are now serving me well. I have lost WITHOUT TRYING about 20 pounds (189 to 170) since beginning work with you. The left shoulder trick you taught me knocked my socks off! I wasn't even aware of how tender that spot was, deep in my shoulder. You provide excellent benefit, what I learn and experience with you serves me daily. Thank you!"
